Project Background

The Salesforce Tower, located at Spencer Place in Dublin’s North Docklands, is a 9-storey, 450,000-square-foot office building completed in 2021. This modern development serves as the European headquarters for Salesforce and houses over 1,500 employees. Designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and employee wellness, the tower features a sleek glass façade offering panoramic views of Dublin Bay and the River Liffey. It incorporates a range of facilities, including green spaces, terraces, wellness centre with gyms and meditation rooms, and flexible workspaces.

The building was designed to meet the highest environmental standards, achieving LEED Platinum certification for its energy efficiency. In addition to its function of being Salesforce European HQ, Salesforce Tower is part of the company's broader community initiative, with top-floor spaces available for local non-profits and community events. Its strategic location to Silicon Docks provides easy access to public transport and places the building at the centre of Dublin’s financial and tech hub.

The Challenge

The project faced several challenges, particularly during the final phase of construction. One significant issue was the high level of congestion in the corridors, where numerous services were running overhead in a confined space. The building’s combination of historic and new construction elements further complicated the integration of these services. Additionally, the site’s city centre location in a highly developed area created logistical difficulties, including restricted access for the delivery of materials.

As a BREEAM-certified and LEED Platinum project, strict sustainability and energy efficiency requirements had to be adhered to throughout the construction process. Another technical challenge was the complexity of the mullion detailing, which required precise planning. Furthermore, the partition walls needed to support multiple fixtures requiring the use of a high impact wallboard such as Habito.

The Approach

To overcome these challenges, Gyproc provided technical expertise and on-site support. Gyproc’s technical team worked closely with the installation crew to ensure that the partitions were both structurally sound and compliant with the required fire resistance and sound insulation standards.

For the partition walls, Gyproc Habito plasterboard was selected due to its high durability and superior fixing capabilities. This board was installed in each room to allow for secure mounting of multiple fixtures, both during the construction phase and for future adaptability. The use of Gyproc Habito not only ensured the project met its immediate requirements but also provided long-term flexibility for the building’s evolving needs.
